Annealing
Increase Ductility & Reduce Hardness from the Annealing Process
Annealing is a heat treatment that alters the physical and sometimes chemical properties of a material to increase its ductility and reduce its hardness, eliminating internal stresses and making it more workable. This method consists of heating a material above its recrystallization temperature, maintaining a suitable temperature for a suitable amount of time, and once fully heated cooling at a very slow and controlled rate without quenching. Stresses induced into the material through processes may cause distortions if the stress are not relieved.
