Normalizing

Improve Machinability, Ductility & Strength with Normalizing

Normalizing is a heat treatment process that improves machinability, ductility, and strength. In this method, steel is heated above the critical temperature, holding for a period of time long enough for transformation to occur, the still or force air cooled. Normalized heat treatment establishes a more uniform carbide size and distribution which facilitates later heat treatment operations and produces a more uniform final product.

The main difference between normalizing and annealing is that the parts are heated 150 – 200 higher and the cooling rate of normalizing is a little faster than in annealing.

Since 1960, Tri-City Heat Treat has had a tradition of being a quality heat treat operation. Contact us for more information on our normalizing services.
